How We Calculate

The Two Factors

We estimate purine content and added sugar from your meal photo. Both contribute to uric acid levels, the key factor in gout.

Purine Estimation

Our AI identifies foods in your photo and matches them against a database of purine values (mg per 100g). High-purine items include organ meats, certain fish, and some legumes.

Added Sugar Estimation

We estimate added sugars—especially fructose—from visible foods, drinks, and packaged items. Added sugar increases uric acid production and reduces kidney clearance.

The Badge: Safe / Caution / Risky

We combine both factors into a single "Uric Load" score and assign a badge:

  • Safe – Low impact on uric acid
  • Caution – Moderate impact; watch your portions
  • Risky – High impact; consider alternatives

Daily Tracking

Each scan adds to your daily Uric Load. We show a simple progress bar so you can see how close you are to common safe limits. In "Flare Mode," we tighten the thresholds to help during active symptoms.

Accuracy & Limitations

This is an estimate, not a lab test. Portion sizes, preparation methods, and individual metabolism all affect real-world impact. Use this as general guidance, not precise medical data.
